ANNUAL MEETING

Over the next two years, thousands of athletes and fans will come to Denver for multiple major sporting events. It is clear – Denver has become a destination for major sporting events from around the world. Why? How? What’s next?

In July 2014, thousands of visitors from around the globe will come to Denver for the International Lacrosse World Championships. This marks the first time the United States has hosted this world championship since 1998, and this promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for lacrosse fans around the globe. In August 2013, the Solheim Cup is coming to Denver where America’s professional female golfers look to defend their unblemished record in home matches and regain the Cup at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, CO.

We are pleased to host 3 interesting speakers on this topic:  Richard Scharf, President/CEO of VISIT DENVER will speak for the Denver Sports Commission;  Gilliam Hamburg is from Alem Int’l, the marketing agency for the World LAX Championships;  and Becky Newell, LPGA Tournament Director to speak about the 2013 Solheim Cup. They will speak to City Club about Colorado’s prominence as a sporting event destination. What makes Colorado such an attractive place to host these events? What is the process for winning them?  What does the future hold?

In addition to this very interesting topic, it is our annual meeting where we present information on the state of the club and hold elections for the new board.
